The practices enable the healthcare providers to subject the patient to interventions and care plans that have already been proven to be effective. This assessment focuses on the patient suffering from diabetes, who requires proper care and management to improve the quality of their lives. The assessment explores the importance of patient engagement, potential and impact of the use of information and communication technology tools, their values and relevance of technology modalities, as well as their impacts on patients.
The Importance of Addressing Patient Engagement in The Management of a Patient's Specific Health, Economic, And Cultural Needs Based On the Best Available Evidence
Evidence-based practice is critical in improving healthcare outcomes. As highlighted by Gallagher et al. (2020), an evidence-based approach improves the quality and population health outcomes by reducing costs and empowering clinicians to fully engage in their roles. Patient engagement is one of the evidence-based practices that is critical in helping patients manage their specific health conditions in better ways. This assessment focuses on diabetic patients, whose role is greatly required in the management of the condition through active, daily control of blood sugar levels by observing healthy eating, consistent physical activity, adhering to medications, and monitoring (Ahmad et al., 2023). The engagement helps guide the patients on conditions like how to monitor their symptoms and the benefits of following the healthcare professional guidelines, leading to better adherence to treatment plans, medications, and adopting better lifestyle choices. In addition, the engagement helps inform the patients about their conditions, improving their understanding, which enhances their self-efficacy in managing symptoms and making daily health decisions. Moreover, engagement boosts the trust between the patient and healthcare providers, fostering their communication on the disease symptoms and needs, improving the ability to manage their conditions.
There are various literatures that has been published whose findings support the benefit of patient engagement. According to the study by Marzban et al. (2022), patient engagement (PE) is one of the widely known strategies introduced and used by the pharmaceutical medical device companies for patient compliance and adherence to the treatment protocols during clinical trials and the care process. This study reveals that patient engagement is linked with increasing self-care, improved patient outcomes, patient satisfaction, and patient adherence (Marzban et al., 2022). Similarly, the studies by Alkhatib et al. (2024) and Keelson et al. (2024) support the benefit of patient engagement, showing that patient engagement empowers individuals to be active participants in their health journey, greatly improving healthcare outcomes, promoting patient satisfaction, and improving effective communication between patients and healthcare providers. Besides, Daba et al. (2025) indicate that patient engagement is critical in healthcare as it improves the patient’s autonomy and informed participation through improved information accessibility and a supportive environment.
Potential Use and Impact of Information and Communication Technology Tools Needed to Improve Consumer Health Literacy for A Specific Patient Population
One type of health care technology modalities that is useful in improving the consumer health literacy is remote patient monitoring (RPM), where patients’ physiological data, like blood pressure, glucose monitors, and pulse oximeters, are monitored in real-time (Haleem et al., 2021). The patients are informed about these data on how to manage them, enhancing consumer health literacy. Artificial Intelligence (AI) & Diagnostics is another modality that can improve consumer health literacy by analysing the medical data to identify patterns and trends for a better understanding of the health issue (Haleem et al., 2021). Moreover, there are web-based education tools that improve consumer health literacy by allowing them to access different information on health issues, prevention, and treatment approaches (Busse et al., 2022). Another modernity is the electronic health records (EHRs) to enable patients to access digital records, which help them understand the history of their medical issues and treatment plans (Chimbo & Motsi, 2024). There are different mobile applications like MyChart that enable the patient to conduct video or phone appointments with the healthcare providers, improving the patient care, as they can access any help to manage their conditions, as well as due to convenience. Moreover, features of telehealth like real-time data transmission and clinical dashboards are critical in improving patient care (Haleem et al., 2021). The features help in monitoring patients’ conditions and tracking their data for effective intervention that aligns with their needs.
The Value and Relevance of the Technology Modalities That May Be Used to Address the Needs Identified in The Patient Population Assessment
The web-based education tools encourage patient engagement in an ethical, culturally sensitive, and inclusive way by allowing the assessment of the individual needs, preferences, and literacy levels of the patient through personalized, interactive platforms (Busse et al., 2022). As such, the tools tailor the content to diverse populations while promoting communication and shared decision-making. In addition, telehealth encourages patient engagement in ethical, culturally sensitive, and inclusive ways by allowing the patient and healthcare providers to engage effectively (Haleem et al., 2021). These aspects are achieved through better communications, connecting the underserved populations, and aligning with the patient’s cultural perspective, such as language, through interpretive services or matching their language. Similarly, electronic health records (EHRs) encourage patient engagement in an ethical, culturally sensitive, and inclusive way by enabling healthcare providers to access the patient’s medical history and offering interventions that are consistent with the data (Chimbo & Motsi, 2024).
Innovative Strategies for Leveraging Technology to Support Quality, Ethical, And Efficient Patient Care That Is Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate for The Identified Patient Population
The selected technology impacts the patient most efficiently by reducing the costs and improving the convenience of accessing healthcare services. For example, with the telehealth technology, patients can access healthcare services without having to travel to physical healthcare settings (Haleem et al., 2021). In addition, through the web-based education tools, patients can access educational materials any time they want, and without having to buy hardcopy materials with the information (Busse et al., 2022). These technologies are culturally and linguistically appropriate, as they allow documentation of the information according to the patient’s diversity.
How The Proposed Strategies Will Mitigate the Risk of Adverse Outcomes Due to Inequity in Access to Patient Personal Health Data and Technology Modalities
Digital illiteracy and financial constraints are some of the risks that could lead to adverse outcomes for certain members of the population, especially the low-income. These risks will be mitigated by teaching the affected members how to use and interact with the technologies. In addition, low-income patients will be sponsored with some devices, such as tablets, that are compatible with these technologies to help in their accessibility. The proposed technologies have been used in the past to address inequities and risks by allowing the underserved populations, especially in rural areas, access to healthcare services.
