The chosen health care economic issue is the supply and demand
Caused by inadequate health care resources, compared to the high demand for health care services.
It is estimated shortage of 4.5 million nurses and 0.31 million midwives by 2030 (World Health Organization, 2024).
High demand for healthcare services beyond the capacity of the available resources
The health needs of the people are not met
Organization
Suffers financial losses in case of fines and lawsuits
Poor services can hurt organizational reputation (Alotaibi, 2024)
Colleagues
Burnout, mental and psychological distress
They are unable to balance their personal lives and work
Reduced performance and productivity
Inaccessibility of the services
Resources are limited to handle all the needs
Health care outcomes of the community reduces
Increased risks of errors
Overworking the staff makes them stressed (Willard-Grace et al., 2019).
Communities are affected by inequitable healthcare services
The initiatives to address the health economic issue mean everything.
The resolution would help improve the working conditions in the healthcare settings
Healthcare professionals will not be overworked.
Healthcare professionals will be more productive and useful
Delivery of high-quality and satisfactory health care services
Help protect and save lives
Considering the issue has great benefits to the professionals, organization, and the community.
The benefits outweigh the risks
Saves the amount that could have been incurred in lawsuits and fines (Al-Suwailem, 2021).
Improving the well-being of the people (Naseem et al., 2024).
People would be productive
The data used to base the analysis on the cost-benefit analysis, by showing the number of benefits that could result from addressing the issue, includes:
A few medication errors were reported in a pharmacy, where there is no shortage of pharmacists (Al-Suwailem, 2021).
Shortage of health care professionals affect patient safety and the quality of care offered (Naseem et al., 2024).
A report by Boniol et al. (2022) indicates that the global health workforce stock and distribution are a threat to the implementation of equity and universal health coverage.
By 2030, there will be a shortage of 18 million healthcare workers (Boniol et al., 2022).
There is a mental health crisis in the health workforce worldwide due to burnout, fatigue, and workforce shortage, which disproportionately affect marginalized communities (Ballout, 2025).
The potential risks could pose a threat to the financial security of the organization:
high wages, high taxation, and a reduced workforce.
An increase in the budget allocation could come with high taxation
This threaten the financial security of the organization
The care setting can lose professionals
Improving operational efficiency by automating some operations
increasing the costs of their services to align with the financial implications
Change the employment terms of some roles;
The proposed solution is to implement increasing resource allocations to the health care sector.
The solution will help ensure there are enough resources, including the health care professionals, equipment and facilities that match the health care services demand.
WHO estimate that there will be a shortage of 4.5 million nurses and 0.31 million midwives by 2030 (World Health Organization, 2024).
The solution will mitigate workforce shortage
It will increase staff due to high budget allocation to the sector
It will prevent the quality and safety issues caused by staff shortage (Wei et al., 2024).
The well-being of the colleagues and community will be improved
It will prevent burnout issues and medication errors, respectively.
The proposed solution is culturally sensitive
It seeks to increase the budget allocation
Solution will help meet the resource needs of healthcare.
No cultural groups are hurt
The resource allocations will prioritize the vulnerable cultural groups
Improving the resource allocation will help promote equitable healthcare
The solution will be ethical by promoting the well-being and health of all the stakeholders
